Nyakach Jimo was the place, 1947 the time and Paul Orwa the child. He would begin his music career in 1968 as a solo artist performing with his box guitar (Hence his nickname). Two years later, he would join George Ramogi's CK Jazz Band. In 1972, he left Ramogi and went ahead to form Victoria Jazz Band, alongside Ochieng Nelly and Were Kelly. He would later rename it Milambo Jazz Band. In 1985, he formed a new band, Kagero Jazz Band. Jasolo believed in naming and re-naming his bands to suit the needs of the time. However, 1991 would see him coming back to Ramogi's CK because Ramogi had the best equipment. They would go to the 1994 American tour together and separate shortly afterwards because of squabbles on how to divide the proceeds.
This led to the formation of Connections Band, which is Jasolo's band to present. In 1997, when Benga lost four maestros at once-Ramogi, Okach, Kabaselleh, Prince Jully- Jasolo went ahead to compose a song in their memory, "Jothum tho Rumo". Guess what? His son sings in the band and he hopes to leave the band in his hands when he retires one day. He is best known for hits like " Pesa Orumo, Thum Joka Le, Nyakach Heroes, Simon Okoth among others
Keep up the good work of documenting the times of these great poets & philosophers. Many of their utterances will rank alongside those of the Cicero's, Platos & Churchills of the distant & near past.
Thank you.
