Recently I have been thinking about you.
It must have been the perfume of the lady I sat next to in a matatu.
Or maybe it is the beautiful flowers that I saw in the countryside.
One thing or another, they have reminded me of you.
Of your heart of gold
Of the warmth in your smile
Of your embrace that held tighter than a lid.
So I thought to myself; why not write you a letter,
To know how you are doing and pour out my feelings?
Now the half written letter lays on my wobbly table
Tons and tons of dust have found home on it
The ink of my pen has spilt on it
And made a picture of the sky where my signature ought to have been
Recently I have been thinking of completing that letter
But I have also been thinking that maybe I am Antonio Jacinto's contract worker,
And you are the illiterate lover on the other end of the line
Except I am not a contract worker,
And no, you are not illiterate
So recently I have been sitting here, my mind occupied by memories of you
My body shivering when I remember the moment we last met.
A smile spreads stealthily across my lips
And my eye lids do a Juju dance to prevent the tears from falling,
For even though I don't remember the last time I saw you-
Even though I don't think I have ever met you-
Even though we may never meet in this life or the next-
I want to believe that we were together
Just recently.
